Paris airports suspend air traffic

Following volcanic eruption in Iceland on Thursday, April 15th, 2010, air traffic in Paris and other major Western European airports remains suspended.


Only 6 Airports in France, all of which are located in the south- Toulouse, Montpellier, Pau, Tarbes, Biarritz and Perpignan- are open. European countries such as the UK, Germany, Holland, Czech Republic, Spain, Finland have suspended aerial traffic till Sunday 18th or Monday, 19th April.


More than 17,000 flights originating from or arriving in European countries of Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, the UK, Estonia, Cezch Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Ireland etc had been cancelled on Saturday.

The air traffic in French airports was restored to normalcy between Monday April 19th- Wednesday, April 21st. In addition to the inconvenience to passengers, the financial repurcussions on the world wide tourism and  transport industry are said to be to the tune of 1.7 Bn $ as per a report from IATA.
