HH the Dalai Lama- an honorary citizen of Paris

HH the 14th Dalai Lama was conferred the honorary citizenship of the city of Paris on June 7th, 2009. The decision was taken by the Consul of Paris in April 2008. The Dalai Lama was present in person to receive the 'plaque' offered to him by Mr. Bertrand Delanoe.

Since 2001, eight eminent personalities from various fields, who have been active in the area of human rights and freedom, have been chosen. Aung San Suu Kyi, Taslima Nasreen, Ingrid Betancourt are some other recepients of the honorary citizenship.

In August 2008, HH the Dalai Lama had come to the French city of Nantes, about 400 kms South-West of Paris to give a 5-day conference.
