Bono gets 'Noble Man of Peace' Prize in Paris

Irish Rocker & member of U2 band, Bono, was awarded the 'Homme de la Paix' award, for the year 2008, by the Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë.

For his humanitarian efforts, the rocker had earlier been nominated for the Noble Peace Prize (2006). His ongoing efforts include support against debt, poverty, AIDS and malaria in African countries. 

Former Polish President Lech Walesa & Frederik Willem de Klerk from South Africa were amongst those present during the award ceremony.

The award concludes the summit for renewal of efforts to release the Burmese leader and former Nobel Peace Prize laureate (1991), Aung Sun Suu Kyi. The latter holds an honorary citizenship of Paris.

From Dec 11th-13th, Paris is host to the 9th Summit of Peace. The conference coincides with the 60th anniversary of Universal declaration of Human Rights.
