Champs-Elysées gets a sister avenue

The most beautiful avenue in the world, as per the French claims, is getting itself a sister avenue in nowhere other than the Chinese metropole Shanghai !

 

As per an accord that is to be signed on April 16th between French and Chinese officials, Avenue Nanjing lu, one of the busiest commercial street of Shanghai will become sister avenue of the Champs Elysées, as per a report in Le Parisien.

Dia hard discount stores in Paris

After their roll-out on March 4th, 2 new stores of hard discount stores 'Dia' have been rolled out in Paris on April 13th, 2010 taking the total number in Paris to 4 and in France to more than 75.

 

These new stores have replaced the existing 'Ed' discount stores. It may be remembered that Ed and Dia both belong to the Carrefour group. As per Carrefour, the revamping is aimed at offering hard discount in city centres with a modern design with a more pleasurable shopping experience and an added emphasis on fresh produce.

New bill relating to Paris & online poker

The French National Assembly adopted the project to bring out a new rule to reduce the monopoly and regulate the sector of online poker.

 

The proposed law aims to regulate the online poker sector which at present is mostly illegal. It is also supposed to put an end to the monopoly held currently by PMU (Pari Mutuel Urbain), FDJ (la Française des jeux), Casinos on Paris hippodromes and poker.

Shekhar Kapur, part of jury at Cannes Film Festival

Indian actor-director-producer, internationally well known for his films Bandit Queen and Elizabeth, will be a part of the jury at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival to be held from 12th-23rd May, 2010.

 

The jury will be presided over by Tim Burton. Other members of the jury include British actor Kate Beckinsale, Italian Giovanna Mezzogiorno, French author-director Emmanuel Carrère, American actor-director Benicio Del Toro,Spanish director Victor Erice and Alberto Barbera- director of the National Museum of Cinema, Italy.
