Monthly E-motions- November of Lights

This is the season of lights from the festival of Diwali to certain streets in Paris that have begun to deck up for the year-end festivals. As many as six different events are planned for Diwali- from soul searching musical evenings to dinner and dance soirées, the festival of lights just got better !

With Autumn finally setting in, we get back to the roots of existence with all that is natural and unspoiled. In this spirit, we present various articles of Green France- our attempt at bringing the natural, organic, ethical and sustainable way of French living to our readers. I

In keeping with the festival Namaste France, Centre Mandapa and théâtre du Soleil's cycle of 'the Carnatic Nights' with evening vigils, overnight concerts and meeting with the artists has been rescheduled to May 2011. Two concerts of traditional music from Northern India with Milind Raikar on violin and Latif Khan on tabla and 'The 96 hours of Concerts/ Télérama' with Fabrice de Graef, Flûte bansuri; Carlos Strazzante, Tabla; U.N.Giridhar Udupa, Ghatam will be on at Centre Mandapa including a Bharatnatyam recital by Lavanya Ananth, disciple of Raja Ratnam Pillai and Smt.K.S.Sarasa. Sahara India's spectacle Bharati- the Bollywood Musical is back throughout this month in Paris. Various artists will present the free concert Songs of the Soul in the tradition of Sri Chinmoy.


India is your dream land and you wish to know more about different aspects from religion to diversity ? The cycle first passport of Guimet museum will allow you a first gentle contact with India on various subjects from 'India under the sign of diversity', 'Four objectives of a Hindu Life' and 'Beauty or the magic of ornament'. The representation of Gods in their 'childhood' in sculptures and the miniatures present the ideal perception of an image that reveals the characteristic values and representations of Indian culture. The subject will be further elaborated on in the conference Representation of God as child in Indian art. Alexander James Patterson will discuss Cesar and the Shramans- India and the West in Ancient Times.

Songs of the Soul


There are at least six destinations for you to choose from for your Diwali Celebrations- Diwali at ISKCON-Radha Krishna Temple, Soirée Diwali Fire Bollywood Style with dinner and dance soirée on Friday night, Diwali dance show and dinner at Vitry, Diwali Dinner + Dance Show at Vigneux-sur-Seine, the suburb of Villepinte is hosting Diwali- Festival of Lights- 3 programmes with a Diwali mela, dinner and dance soirée, a Bhajan evening and finally, the Diwali Celebrations at India House with cultural programs, refreshments and fireworks.


The floor art of Kolam and Kalam are practised in South India. Contributing to the knowledge of graphic heritage of India, Chantal Jumel explores the different compositions of these ephemeral paintings linked to not only to aesthetic codes but also to Hindu myths, local beliefs and to contemporary use in the workshop Kôlam – ephemeral art of South India. French photographer Mathieu Fouchet will have Book Signing 'Lumière Indienne' seances throughout November.


Lastly, Anil Abhimanyu Sharma will keep Indian gastronomic interest alive for the French gourmet with his Indian cuisine workshops- Dinner with Friends and Dinner at Maharajah's.
