With the winter season finally on, the warmth of the festive season setting in, we wish all our readers and members a very happy new year 2010. This is the Chinese year of the Tiger starting from 14th February. 2010 is also the year of Russia in France and France in Russia.

Party-hearty can enjoy last days of Christmas week at Moulin Rouge with its show Féerie and with children at Disneyland's Magical Christmas. Association Comptoirs des Indes will present Pongal festivities with dance and music at India house to celebrate Tamil New Year. 

 

On dance front, the Bollywood Show that has been on practically all of last month comes to a conclusion.The fans of Bollywood style shows need not despair though with two other popular dance-music extravaganzas making their way this month. Saawariya- the show is the local rendition of Bollywood style romance by talented young artists presented by the Association You and Me. Sahara India's Bharati is coming back to Paris for a third year in row. World culture is represented by Boerte- The Mongolian troupe bearing the name of the fiancée of Genghis Khan- that will be presenting an exceptional show of Mongolian traditional dances at Museum Guimet. Those looking to hone their dance skills at Clermont Ferrand can benefit from Namaste India's dance courses.

Circus fans will still have a few days to enjoy the South American inspired show Pampa by Circus Alexis Gruss and the exceptional show of LiYa- The daughter of the Emperor put together by Peking Circus and presented by Phenix Circus. Eastern European inspired Circus Romanès will, however, be present throughout the month in Paris. 

 

 Pongal to Pondichéry 

2 photographic exhibitions are putting accent on India. Toshiya Momose's ongoing Visions of India which is a part of a collective exhibition Voyages- Japanese photographer's world view and from Pondal to Pondicheri...from Kolam in Kolam by Catherine and Jean-Michel Krassovitch. Photography enthusiasts and amateurs will also have opportunity to participate in a free conference on Story and Evolution of Camera in Japan by Tetsurô Gotô this month. 

 

Keeping up the tradition of story telling, Centre Mandapa will host Narrations in Music- Winter tales sessions with music in January and February. India will be under spotlight with Devi ka Tom and Krishna Lila this month. 

 

With a relatively good snow fall in Paris last month and forecasts for this month, one need not head to exotic destination for winter sports. The city of Paris is bringing winter snow to the city sports scene for free use for all public- at Ice skating rink at Hotel de Ville and at Ice skating rink at Montparnasse. One can get free lessons from professionals as well rent the skating shoes. 

 

Those waiting to indulge their senses can enjoy Bollyfood- the Bollywood special workshop by Anil Abhimanyu Sharma. Ecole Prana of Belgium comes to Dijon for day long courses in Indian massage. Sessions in Vedanta, Meditation and Yoga are offered by CCIT Marseille. Intellectual stimulation is provided by Conference on French distributors in India- a stroke of luck or a dream. Shopaholics will be pleased to know that after the heavy-duty festive shopping, the winter sales (soldes d'hiver) is on for better part of the month and is going to be easy on purse-strings. Giant wheel at Concorde remains installed for a couple of weeks. Go get a ride !
